explorer.exe hangws

hi... im new to winxp - my explorer.exe hangs when i start it - it never
actually appears but seems to use 50% of processor indefinitely... Ive run
spyhunter and removed some adware and done a full AV scan but it still
doesnt seem happy. Any ideas?

winxphome - all relevant crit updates as of today...
