Windows XP explorer.exe desktop icons and start menu disappear

Hi

I have XP pro and antivir personal edtion premium antivir software, I have done a full scan in safe mode and nothing to report. The desktop icons and start up menu disappear after a while and when you open the task manager, the file explorer.exe is not there. Type explorer.exe in new task in task manager and it restarts for a while.

I have tried to find the explorer.exe file via "search" but kicks out and no success. I did one restore and now all the previous restores are gone.

I have just run spybot and the virus virtumonde was found maybe the reason?

virtumonde may well be the reason - however I'm afraid we no longer analyse HT logs here due to the specialist nature required.

Please go to a specialist site such as Bleepingcomputer.com and seek help there....sorry!
