The error reads exactly like this..................The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program. Thats the error message. I have windows xp home edition. Well when i right click to open the menu up to delete copy or properties. As soon as i right mouse click i get that error message. I then click ok the screen goes blank and takes me back to my desktop. Some one please help me. Thanks Rob

I am getting a similar problem, except I get "memory
could not be "written". This occurs when I try to access
certain graphics files (which I've never had trouble with
before) on my new computer. It dumps me out of Windows
Explorer to the desktop every time.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300, 3.2GB processor, 1GB RAM,
and a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card. I have Spybot, Ad-
Aware, Zone Alarm Pro, and I Hate Spam, update often, and
am virus-free. I have tried "sfc /scannow", "chkdsk
c: /f", and downloading the Microsoft patch mentioned as
a possible fix. Still no luck... Reinstalling Windows
seems like an overall broad brush "fix anything and
everything" solution, which doesn't address the specific
error. I'd really like to find a solution that explains
WHAT is happening and WHY it's happening before I just
give up and reinstall. Any suggestions?

I have found this to be a problem in many systems that have been upated to
XP SP1, regardless of hardware configuration. It involves an earlier patch
MS released that causes explorer.exe to shutdown and restart. It also
involves the winlogon.exe module as noted in the events log under
Administrative Tools.

It took me about six months looking for and asking for remedies and I have
found that a forthcoming patch in the SP 2 answered my delimma. Click on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329692&Product=winxp
#appliesto, scroll down and read what this patch does and click Duser.dll to
download the patch.

I worked for me and I hope this will answer your dilemma.
