sort of... I installed vista business, and when I login, the only thing that
opens is the my documents folder (which coincidentally is also named explorer
in the task manager) if I run explorer from the task manager, it works fine,
opening a new process also called explorer that is the one I want to be
running. Is there a way that windows is opening the wrong "explorer.exe" for
some reason? I'm not sure how point windows in the right direction...

Explorer is used to open the Doc folder. in fact it is generally used to open lots of stuff.

Something was messed up in the installation - was this an upgrade or a clean
install?

Have you checked your startups to see if something else is launching the My
Documents folder from explorer.exe? It could be something as simple as a
messed up syntax in the command that opens explorer.exe as your shell (from
the old win.ini days).

This was an upgrade. I'm not really an expert on how to analyze how windows
starts up, the extent of my knowledge is to look at msconfig. I didn't see
win.ini stuff to check in msconfig this time around...

To answer the other question, I doublechecked. If I login, and I close the
process under the name explorer, it closes the my documents folder, which is
the only thing open, running explorer from the new task menu starts the
explorer that I want.
