I don't know which ones because they are not shown but IE does not display
the contents of my preview pane when I use browse mail from our exchange
server. Neither do some pages show pictures whilst others do. Can anyone
suggest what may be the problem - and a solution?
Regards,
Kim

Hi Kim :-)

You do not mention the version of Windows or IE you are using, but, you
might try the following and see if it helps:

Red X Instead of Images - Can't see or save Images/Pictures
Fuzzy Text and fuzzy web graphics

Change the DPI setting from Large to Normal and see if that helps.

I can't see JPG's or GIFS any more - red x - images missing - fuzzy
images/distorted images

or .

or.....................

To restore the default file association, go to
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
Download, unzip and merge the REG file, "JPE/JPG/JPEG Association Fix"
Some image/graphics programs will change file associations.

or..........

Try clearing the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and
delete offline content.)

also try...................

Pictures Do Not Show
http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/redx.htm

or.......................

Right click on the graphic you see and a pop up menu should appear. Select
"Show Picture" option.

Then, go to Internet Options>Advanced Tab
Show Pictures - check option if
unchecked to display pictures all the time.

Thanks Jan for the many suggestions :-)),
Sorry to have been a little vague in my question.
I'm running IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2 on my Win XP Pro with SP2 and all
updates. I run Norton AV 2003 and Zone Alarm FW. I do not get any red
crosses, I only get a blank space where the pictures (and in the exchange
server case, text) should have been. I know there should be pictures because
the pages display fine on other machines/browsers.
I have tried all your suggestions below except the ones not applicable to my
situation and I have checked all the things mentioned in your suggestions,
with no positive result. I have not tried reinstalling or restoring IE,
though...
I've had the problem a long time, also before sp2, but it's only recently I
have been really annoyed by it and want to get rid of it.
Maybe it really is a Norton thing? I think that when I had PcCillin before I
did not have the problem. Anyway I did as Symantec suggested and reinstalled
MS Scripting, still no-go.
As an example the website www.ballet-skolen.dk has some pictures in the left
side under "Aktuelt" or "Right Now", that I cannot see. Only the background
shows.

I look forward to any answers,
Regards, Kim

Hi Kim :-)

Sorry the suggestions did not work for you. But, there are various things
that can cause this type of problem, and knowing that you had the problem
prior to installing the SP2 does help. Are you using any 3rd party popup or
ad blockers, such as Yahoo or Google toolbars, or Yahoo Companion? Also, do
you have SpywareBlaster or another program that might be blocking your Flash
or Multimedia or such images?

I know you don't want to go to the Internet without the firewall, and you
shouldn't, but, try uninstalling your Norton and try the site again. Then
you will know for sure if it is related to Norton or not. It has been known
to cause some problems with viewing some types of sites.

You might also try this fix. Although it worked for a few others, it may not
work for you, but, may be worth a try. But, be sure to back up this key
before you try this:

Open Regedit
Open \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\

Delete the keys "http", "https", and "ftp"
Leave the 'mk' key

The mk key is created by Windows and the others may be created by some other
dnld manager.
