Hi,
I have 2 hard drives C and a partioned 1 into D/E. When I
started my PC today it hung on start up with a msg saying,
"Error connecting to hard drive. Press F1 to resume" which
I did. Windows explorer now does not show drive D and E.
They also do not show in Computer Management/Disk
Management. Everything was working fine up until now. The
only recent major change was adding an external drive
recently. This problem did occur about 18mths ago and was
fixed under warranty. My CD-ROM drives work ok.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Is the second drive listed in the Bios?
Does disconecting the external drive make any diff?

That message indicating that you should "press F1" is from the BIOS. You
have a hardware problem either with the HD itself or the cables or power
supplied. The BIOS believes something is attached, it just cant read it
and so provides that warning. Since the BIOS can't talk to the drive,
the OS won't see it anymore either. More warranty, I would say.
