Hi,
(using windows XP) -Norton found 2 instances of spyware in my Temporary
internet files folder but could not delete them. I think I have since
deleted these files but now windows explorer usually crashes ( imediately
every time I try to open this folder, if it doesn't crash immediately it
crashes very shortly after the folder is open or nothing happens at all.

The same result if I try to view the temporary files through IE internet
options menu.

Windows won't let me rename or delete the folder, I tried moving the folders
location through IE but it had the same problem

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

thanks

Hi,
Are you posting through another browser on this machine? You should download
and run Cwshredder and Ad-aware SE. See
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Next, if you can keep a Windows Explorer window open long enough, the
instructions at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm will help you
delete the TIF folder.

Hi Don,

I am still able to use IE and I seem to have full functionality. The only
problem I am having is I cannot access the folder for "temporary internet
files". I get the 'windows has experienced problems and needs to close etc
etc" error dialog box. I have Ad-aware and use it regulalry. I installed
CWshredder as you suggested and it didn't find anything.

Your last post help a bit, I had tried to delete this folder from another
account but could not access it. I unchecked the private box for the
settings folder and created a new admin account and was able to delete it
then.

I was able to veiw the "temporary internet files" folder once or twice
before the problem returned. Also, I was not able to access some websites, I
believe the common theme was web pages where I need to sign in (secure
pages?). For example, I could not reply to this group because the web page
came up unavailable. Another example, Fidelity's main page came up the same
- unavailabe.

I did a system restore and that problem has gone away but I'm back where I
started.

I'm thinking that this is some sort of lingering registry issue but I only
know enough about the registry to be dangerous so I'm afraid to do anything
there. I'm considering a system restore form a couple of weeks ago but I'd
rather not do that if I don't have to.

Any other ideas?
