Hello Everyone.

Recently i came across one starnge problem. I have 3 hard drives on my
machine where c drive is for OS (winXP-Pro) only, D: is for program files
and E: is storage.

When i open my D: drive and navigate to one particular folder i get a
message that explorer has caused and error and needs to be closed .
Sometimes i get message about memory error.

It happens only in this folder every other folder seems to be working fine.
I already drove myself nuts trying to find a resolution for the problem.

For the contents of this folder i can say only one thing it contains whole
bunch of video's from my dvd camera and they are quite large . At this point
i have about 3Gb in that folder and additional 10Gb i have in other folders
within this one , which actually i had created for the sole purpose to see
if that would resolve the crash.

i would appreciate if anyone can help me in resolving this issue.

This is what i have alredy done

Defragment
Reinstall IE
Sorted files to newly created folder.
runned scan disc.

I run

Win Xp Pro
1000MgHz P-III
526Mb Ram
3-Hard Drives
ATI All In Wonder Radeon

Thank You

Alex

I had a similar problem with IE crashing with a folder
that had large content. I went onto the windows update
site and updated every file I could. I was then able to
access the folder.
Not the most definative solution, but it may be worth a
try.

Thank you very much for your suggestion but i am up to date on addon's,
still crashes in this particular folder, no where else but there

Is this folder accessed via a shortcut on the desktop? Does it work if you
go to My Computer and then drill down to it instead?

If so I had the same problem and it was fixed by deleting the shortcut and
re-creating it as follows: Going to My Computer, drilling down to the folder
and then right clicking on it and selecting creat shortcut. Drag the
shortcut to the desktop. It may actually say it "can't create one here" and
offer to create it on the desktop instead.

Thank you for your suggestion, but i have tried that approach it still
crashes even if i go through my computer and navigate to the folder. As soon
as i open it it crashes.

Actually i do not know why i did no think before about it but i took a look
at the event viewer and i see a lot of errors there, this is what they look
like.

If someone knows what in the world does it mean i would appreciate a bit of
help.

Thank you very much

Thank you all very much for your suggestions and help.
Finally i have resolved the problem. The best solution to resolve such
issues came about after some brainstorming.

Here is the solution for those who are interested.

First i went to event viewer under administrative tools (can be accessed
from control panel) and i have found several errors where most of them
pointed to

lmpgspl.ax file, which was supposedly causing the trouble. So i went on
Google an tried to search for it couple of times. Well results on Google
were not impressive so i have decided to do a little trick. Find the file
and delete it (TO RECYCLE BIN) leave it there until reboot. Well i have
found the bastard in system32 folder and moved it to recycle bin. My
assumption was that if this file causes the problem then it must be running
as service and being launched or used by some program. And since it is a
required file for some application then it will obviously ask for it. So
when i rebooted my computer nothing really happened except explorer.exe went
nuts on system resources. Then about 3 minutes in to crazy behavior i
finally as something that looked like error screen but hold on, whole as i
expected it was installshield wizard claiming it's file. It did not took
long from there to see what program was requesting that file, to my
amazement it was ROXIO EASY CD CREATOR. So here it goes >control
panel>add/remove programs/KILL ROXIO. PROBLEM SOLVED. Back in 1999 i bough
roxio platinum and i kind of liked it while it was running on win 98 but
after a while it did cause problems too, so once and for all i have decided
not to use that product anymore, but in 2003 i do not know what got in to me
when i got the new version of it and installed it. And again look what
happened. So one thing i can say about this whole thing is that avoid roxio
and take full advantage of event viewer. Helps.

Thank you all again

Thanks for posting the solution. Not enough people do that.

For info...

I think the CD burning S/W that is built into WinXP was produced by Roxio.
Perhaps that has something to do with the problem as well.

I've found Roxio Easy CD works very well so far.
