I had a dial up connection on my computer. I switch over to an Cable
connection. When I connect the ethernet cable it finds the connection as
says that I'm connected. But when I load Internet Explorer it still tries to
dial up. How do I make in find the high speed connection?

What If I want to keep the dial up connection. Its a laptop. I want high
speed at school and dial up at home.

Hi,

Try these steps:

1. Click Start, run, type "inetcpl.cpl" (with out quotation marks) and click
OK.
2. Click the Connections tab, select and remove the dial-up connection below
the "Dial-up and virtual network settings"
3. Click OK.

Try these steps to set the cable connection as the default connection:

1. Click Start, run, type "ncpa.cpl" (with out quotation marks) and click
OK.
2. In the resulting window, right-click on the "Local Area connection" icon
and select "Set as default connection"
3. Click OK.

Hi Michael :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Proxy setting errors or "Detecting Proxy Server"

Go to Tools> Internet Options>Connections
Click the Lan settings button.
Uncheck "Automatically detect settings".

or....

Disable Automatic Proxy configuration
http://charterpipelinentx.net/disableproxy.htm

and perhaps....

Unreliable Connections and Error Messages Using a Proxy Server

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)
