Is there a way to hide or remove the 'Control Panel' in the directory tree
in Explorer?

Hello Commie,

Open the registry editor (Start => Run and type in "regedit" {without
the quotes})
Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
\Explorer

Locate the following entry in the right-hand pane (if they exist):
NoControlPanel

Right-click and Modify it's Value to decimal 1

If the entry doesn't exist, right-click on Explorer and create a new
DWORD and name it NoControlPanel {no spaces} and give it a decimal
value of 1

That did the opposite of what I wanted. i.e. 'Control Panel' no longer
appears on the Start/Settings menu, but still appears in the Windows
Explorer 'tree'.

I spoke too soon. After logging off/on 'Control Panel' no longer appears in
either place (still not what I want).
