McAfee has indicated that I have the Exploit-URLSpoof.gen virus. It won't
allow me to delete, clean or quarantine it. Does anyone know how to deal
with it?

Thanks again. I have looked at the link which says:

"Use current engine and DAT files for detection. Delete any file which
contains this detection."

It is McAfee itself that tells me that it can't deal with it.

At least it says that its risk is low. Given that the date of the report is
2.5 years ago I would have thought that their software might have learnt how
to deal with it.

I have only had my computer for just over a year and I have had McAfee for
all that time!

Using Google, I found the McAfee site and this is part of an update which
says:

" Microsoft has released a patch for the vulnerability exploited by this
threat. For more information visit:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-004.asp
http://

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833786 "

Is this of any help to you?

This is contained on the site quoted by Milt. I have looked at these and
they are patches to prevent the file being downloaded. I have now got this
on my machine and I would like to remove it - if possible.

The patch helps prevent such a virus attacking the machine - but it doesn't
deal with getting rid of it once I have got it - which is where McAfee were
supposed to come in!

Thanks

There seems to be a related file translate_e[1].htm which came up.

I can find neither of the files or references if I do a Search on Explorer.

Nick,
Did you notice that part of that article also said to clear your Restore
Points in System Restore?

No, but I just went to log off my computer and there was a McAfee VirusScan
message on the desktop which might have been in the background for most of
the day which indicated that "Trojan had been found and cleaned" and also
that Exploit-URLSpoof.gen "has been deleted to complete the process".

Thanks

This has now been deleted by VirusScan. It read "Trojan found and cleaned".

Thanks everyone
