I am creating an animated presentation, and want the
graphic to appear to explode before it is replaced by
another. Any suggestions on how I can make this happen?
I've tried all the other animation effects available, but
nothing makes the graphic appear to explode.

What version of PowerPoint?

You cannot "destroy" a graphic with PowerPoint animations. Which version of
PPT do you use? Do you have experience with image editing programs? I would
cut the graphic into pieces and have those pieces fly out in different
directions. A simpler way might want to try is combining the exit animations
"circle" and "fade" and the emphasis animation "zoom". I already used that
for a fireworks slide, it looks good if you have the right images.

Kind regards,
Ute

You might consider using a flash animation - have a look
at Swish, it is really very easy to do what you want.

Ruth,
An explosion effect can be created with a combination of two exit
animations.
1. Dissolve out - Very fast
2. Zoom In - Very fast - Start with Previous
