Just kidding. Is it safe to take the hard-drive from an
old 386 XT Dos machine and mount it in a Pentium-3 XP
machine to get the data off it? (The old machine has no
working removable media left, and my favorite program for
file transfer, Laplink Gold, can't deal with a DOS
machine & a WINDOWS machine at the same time.)I've been
told this is no big deal, but I'm worried about my
puppy...

If it is a standard IDE drive, set the jumper to "slave" and
install it on the secondary channel.

It is formatted, XP should see it and you can copy the
files. It is probably very small and slow, but it should
work. It won't harm anything.
