OK, let's see someone who needs a challenge. Here's what
I've tried with no result:

- Reinstalling Office XP.
- Fixing Office XP from installer and from within (Help
column), overwriting my settings with default settings.
- Run the mailbox file fixer SCANPST.EXE.
- Deleting, adding, replacing Outlook files manually.
- Deleting and resetting mailboxes and accounts.

Here's why:

- Word XP can't "see" its accounts from the email
accounts bar --reports a serious error.
- Outlook 2002 can't "see" the Personal Addresses or the
Outlook Adresses, it _can_ see the Contacts.
- Email addresses work fine on test sends, but not on
manual send. Outlook can't do a Send and Receive, it
reports the "Operation Failed".
- "Junk Mail" setting has dissapeared from the "Organize
Folders" and the Wizard doesn't appear on the Tools menu.

So, what have I missed or messed?

It seems I must answer my own post. I came upon the solution --a corrupted
email profile-- from perusing Miscrosoft Knowledge Base Article - 315048 <
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315048 > so I went
to the Mail control panel and deleted the old one. I then had to re-enter
all the mail addresses and address books. Then had to use my old Personal
Folders (which I renamed "archive.pst") as my "email storage files", since
Outlook had created a new Personal Folders and I didn't particularly care to
experiment with the chance of corruption again.
For the record, I believe my problems began when I installed EarthLink's (my
ISP) TotalAccess software, which reset connections, etc.
