Expert opions please, too many spywares?????

New to all of this.
Do I have to much spyware?
I have msas beta 1, spybot, ad-aware se, spywareblaster,
spywareguard, and my dsl company has sbc spyware.
And I have nortons systemworks 2005 premier.

My husband thinks i went over board, but we had a virus(I
think 4), a trojan, and a bunch of spyware. I also had to
download some other stuff (ccsetup 119 & CCleaner and
Hijackthis & hijackthis logs) so that we could get rid of
all that crap we had. He thinks that I shouldn't download
all of this stuff. We have plenty of room and most of
these don't take up a lot of room.
Do you think I went overboard?
Should I uninstall some of it?
If so what should I uninstall?

Actually it is a good idea to use a few anti-something applications, because
no one of them is 100% effective. What one of such applicationd misses, can
be detected and removed by other one.
The point is to keep them up to date (all the time).
And most of us (I think) uses at least two or three such applications.
 
As Mikolaj said i think we all have more than one remover
and they dont usually conflict with each other at all.
The only thing you need to avoid is getting 2 anti virus
programs,This could lead to one picking up the virus
patterns that are stored in the other program.

My setup is Norton Internet Security & Norton System
Works.Ad-Aware SE,Spybot S&D,Spyware Guard & Blaster,Spy
Sweeper,Ccleaner,Hijack This,Hoster & CWShredder.

Looking at them it seems alot but they all work well
together for me anyway and i never have any malware
problems im no expert though thats just my opinion.

Except for the above, everything that you have installed will provide
adequate protection IF you keep them all updated and scan the system on
a REGULAR basis. I would_NOT trust SBC, nor any other ISP, to provide a
reliable tool/utility/program that would provide adequate protection or
not conflict with proven antispyware programs. Having tested some of
these " anti-spywares " from ISP's, I can say that they cause issues
with the overall performance of the system or conflict with known,
reliable antispyware programs.

Hi Suzette,

I have been using Ad-Aware and SpywareBlaster for over a
year now and within the past 6 months I have added McAfee
AV 9.1 and Microsoft ASB.

I must tell you that from 'my' perspective none of them
are doing anything with the exception of McAfee AV which
catches all trojans and browser redirect attempts
immediately. Not one of the other programs I mentioned
ever gets a chance to even respond.

I was always a Norton user, but switched to McAfee as a
test after 15 years of Norton use. McAfee picked up
things that Norton never did, and now McAfee AV seems to
have complete control over everything on my computer (in
a good sense).

So are all of these other programs for Spyware worth it?
I am tending to doubt the need for them after switching
products in December 2004.

The way I see it, all of these programs probably just
chew up allot of resident memory for almost no reason.

I would stick with SpywareBlaster and I recommend McAfee
AV and Firewall when your Norton subscription ends, but
other than that? I don't see the need for MASB,
SpywareGuard or Spybot. Your hubby is correct; overkill.
