Expert Backup interface?

I was wondering if there is another was to access the backup program that is
not so 'neophyte" friendly and would give me some options as it did in 2k
and XP. I think that what is there is great, but being a more experienced
user it really limits me. I would like to be able, for example, to just same
the 'system state'.

In addition to my last question, I would like to add that if I am ablt to
create a backup. Will I be able to use that backup when I get the final
release of Vista?

What type of options are you looking for?

Vista Ultimate does provide a few more backup features (such as "CompletePC
Backup") than Vista Home, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking
for.

I was looking to be able to back up the system state as I would on 2k. I
have all of my important files and folders on a separate drive and I point
folders there, so I do not have to back up data. One of the best things I
have ever done to a system. I can always reload the OS without affecting my
data.

I would like to be able to just save the system state and the contents of
the C drive beyond just data.

A bit late in this response, but I had the same question myself and only
found your post (no actual answer). So until someone has a better answer,
here is what I found:

The Vista 'backup' in Accessories/System Tools doesn't seem to be a direct
relation to the old Win2000/XP backup... the new one is a program called
'sdclt.exe', the old one is called 'ntbackup.exe', and ntbackup (or a direct
equivalent) no longer appears to be provided with Vista.

So unless there is a separate utility, or a way to start the new one in
'advanced mode' that isn't clear, there isn't a direct replacement.

Which is odd, since not only are options such as 'only system state' not
available, but you don't have a choice to do backups by directory or
subdirectory; only drive and a vague 'file type' (ie 'pictures') selection.
As well, it seems to always force you to backup the 'drive containing the
operating system', which means if you want to backup a secondary hard drive
you have to backup your system drive too.

Very unusual.
 
You can probably use the "File and Folder Backup Wizard" to back up the
contents of any additional drive you may have in your computer.
 
help us mvp's help us. i am also in search of the 'pick your own files' to
back up wizard or interface.
