Experiences with PictBridge Firmware Update of Canon Elph S400?

I would like to do this. This camera preceded the S410 which is
PictBridge compatible.
Could anyone who has done this tell me if the process is
simple and if there are glitches? I am told it is finicky and if
things go wrong, the camera will become unusable.
This is important because I am looking for a new
printer and do want the PictBridge capability.
