Well, I just installed Picasa 1.618, the freebie (formerly shareware from
Google). It installs actually 3 programs, Picasa, Downloader and
PicasaMediadetector. I allowed none of the programs internet access. FTR I
have no idea what downloader does, but I don't think I want to find out. I
did allow Picasamediadetector to run at startup. Ostensibly it's supposed to
monitor any pictures added to whatever folders you specify and add them to
the data base. So far it's working correctly, seems like a nice app, just
don't allow it to run wild. There is also a 'registering' feature, supposed
to give you access to new products, updates, etc. I opted out of that. Ran
ad-ware after the install and no hits, so crossing my fingers. Will run
Spybot S&D later. Like to know of any comments or experiences on this app.
Thanks.

I'm using it since 2 weeks and it's a nice tool.

I sent the following questions to their support :
<.How to display info ( filename) during the slideshow? >
<.How to keep the complete path of the directories by the sort? Only the
lowest
path is taking part of the sort.>

I was receiving a ticket and I then ana answer 2 days after saying it's not
available in this present version but will examine future.

I had Picasa on my hard drive for a couple of weeks. I've uninstalled
and deleted all registry references.

I download all pics from my digital camera to specific folders, name,
change, mark at my convenience. With Picasa it downloads the photos,
but then creates a "library" of sorts, any changes in the photo seem to
be done in the library, not on the original photos, which is great if
you want your originals untouched, but the duplication over time takes
up more & more space. Plus it drops "picasa.ini" files all over the place.

Easy to use, love the way it displays/moves thumbnails/slideshow. But
just a little to invasive for me.

Mark
