Expand Favorites Menu

When clicking on Favorites on the Menu Bar it opens on the left side of the
IE page like it does when clicking on the Favorites button on the Standard
toolbar next to the History button. Does anyone know how to get it to expand
like it used to?

Unfortunately a babysitter used the computer without permission and now I
can’t get it back to the way it was.

I am running XP Home SP2 with IE 6.

Thanks in advance

Hi Lacie :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options >Advanced tab
Uncheck "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu"
Click on Apply then click OK.

or..

and....

Display all the links on the favorites menu

Open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
In the right-pane, double-click "Favorites" and copy the value and post it
here.

The correct value should be: "%USERPROFILE%\Favorites"

or........................

Use FolderRedirector utility and reset the shell folder paths for Favorites
to the default values (both user shell folders and shell folders registry
keys)

Using FolderRedirector utility to redirect special folders in Windows XP:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/folderredirector.htm

In XP..there is a local user policy for Favorites, and there is a check box
to delete the Favorites and only use the Favorites provided in the policy.
Check to be sure this setting is not selected.

or...

It might be an incorrect Registry setting:

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

also..

It could also be that the Favorites folder is corrupted and you will need to
create a new one:

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers3.htm#favorites

and..

Try creating new folder in your Favorites in IE and name it something you
will easily remember and stand out readily. Then go to Start>Search> and
enter the name of that folder and see where it shows up. It may well be
that you'll find the rest of the missing Favorites links there was well.
You can then just drag them over into the correct Favorites folder and
delete the incorrect folder.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for the reply. My husband got it working right but unfortunately he
doesn't know exactly what he did. He "messed" around in the internet options.
I know it wasn't the "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu" because I tried
that. Not really sure what it was, but thanks anyway.
