here's the problem. we have a form that collects
information from users - then sends them to a page to
download documents and programs.
When you click on the documents (.doc) - you get the
right prompt to save the file
When you click on the EXE - the site tries to start
the .exe file....... how do I get it to prompt to save
the file to the client computer?
PS - this works on one server - and not the other -
eventhough the file permissions are the same...

We are also running Server Ext. 2002
thanks

When you say it 'tries to start the .exe file,' do you mean it just starts
running, or asks the user 'hey, do you want to run this?' Users should
always by their browser when clicking on links to executable files. If they
were to automatically run, well, there'd be a LOT more virii out there than
there are now!

So, the same computer can connect to two different servers and gets
different results? If that's the case, check your security zone settings
(assuming your using IE) and see if the browser is treating both servers
with the same security. Is one "Trusted" where the other is "Internet"?

In Internet Services Manager, right-click the problem
site, choose Properties, click the Home Directory (or
Directory) tab, and make sure Execute Permissions are None
or Scripts Only.

That was such an obvious thing to check, Jim. I wish I'd thought of it.

Good catch!
