exe files program association

In the process of trying to eliminate a Trojan, all of my .exe files have
lost the ability to recognize which program created them. I cannot restore
because the restore exe file doesn't know which program created it and
neither do I. I hope someone can help me. I am able to open, for instance,
registry mechanic because I know and am able to show windows the file that
created it. It is this way with everything..

scroll down and find the fix for exe files.
