Hi Folks,

Can somebody tell me where on my XP system the Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer exe file is located. Thanks.

Ken

Thanks.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll

There is no .exe but you can open
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
if you enter the following command
at....Start / Run:

rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen

If you tell us what you are trying to
accomplish, maybe we can offer
more info.

It's part of shimgvw.dll

If I copy that file to a Win2000 computer that doesn't seem to have
it, will Windows Picture and Fax Viewer then appear in the Open With
dialog box? Thanks.

I don't think so. As far as I know...WP&F Viewer
{shimgvw.dll} is exclusive to WinME and WinXP.

How would I create a shortcut which would run it without using the Run
dialog? I tried using the following as a shortcut Target . . .

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
Windows\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView

. . . but it doesn't work. Thanks.

==================================
Right click your desktop...from the menu...
choose...New / Shortcut...enter the following:

rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen

If you wish to open a specific image with
the shortcut...leave one space and add
the complete path for the image.

Thanks, that works well. As an alternative to using the Open With
dialog box, which may not display the Viewer on the Win2000 system, I
tried creating that shortcut in the Send To folder on my WinXP system,
thinking that it may be a way to get it to work in Win2000. When I
send a JPG to it, however, it doesn't work. Is there a way that I
might get the Send To shortcut to open a JPG that's sent to it?
Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have that answer.

I'm not completely familiar with these things, but might it be
possible to place a script file in the Send To folder which captures
the pathname of the file that's being sent to it and then uses the Run
command to Run . . .

rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen

. . . with the captured pathname added at the end of the command
line, as you had mentioned?
