Exclusive access to database

A number of people use my database on the network.
If they have it open, I am not able to go into design
view for a table, nor am I able to make a new report
from a new query I just created.
Just looking at the questions in this newsgoup makes
me feel like I know nothing about access.
I hope my question is not too minimal to receive
an answer on.

I think I understand what you're asking -
You want multiple users to edit the form at the same time.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced tab
Make sure Default open mode is "shared access" and change
default record locking to "no locks"

Good luck,
Mike D.

Hi Gizmo

Look into "split database design" at Tony Toew's site (under splitting your
app into front end and back end)

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/tipsindex.htm

You should do this in a multi user Access app. In addition to minimizing
possible data corruption, this design allows you to manage changes/revisions
to your app more easily.

Besides the other two good suggestions. I would add that
you could copy the mdb file make your changes in the
copied database, and when there is a time that others are
ot using the database you can merge the forms or queries
or repeort you may have created off line by simply
importing them.
Hope this helps.

No, you can't make design changes to tables while
someone else has them open. But I can go into
design VIEW ????? I just can't make changes. (Not
at all. There really is no way to make design changes
to a /table/ while someone else has it open)
