"Exclusive Access" (or lack thereof) suddenly an issue

I am a casual Access user who just ran into a new problem. In a relatively simple database I am suddenly getting messages about the fact that I do not have exclusive access to my database. And I suddenly seem to be unable to save changes made to forms for this reason.

This is a single user database installed on a single user system (Win2000 Pro, Access 2003). I have never set up a user group, users, or anything else like that. Whatever is the default is what it is (unless I inadvertently changed it somehow). I am logged onto my system as the administrator (the only established Win2000 login on this computer).

How did this happen and, more importantly, how can I make this go away?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Close Microsoft Access.
Via Windows Explorer navigate to the folder where your database file
resides.
Do you see a file listed there as [same name as your database].LDB?

If so, delete it. Reopen your database. Are you now able to save design
changes?

If you don't see the related *.LDB file then reopen your database and with
your database file opened look in the folder again to see if you see the
*.LDB file.

Should you not see it then the folder you have your database file in does
not allow you FULL Control.

Other causes are corrupted database (*.LDB file never deletes itself after
you close your database file).

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Thanks, Eric. While I didn't have a .LDB file with the same filename as the one that I was working on, there was one associated with an old backup copy. I deleted that one and, at least once, was now able to edit my forms without argument from Access.

Thank you both. I was unable to fund the .LDB file but there was one listed
as "record-locking." That seemed to be my problem. I deleted it and was given
free access. Thanks again,

From your description, is there a chance your display doesn't show file
extensions -- Windows can be customized to either display or not show the
extensions. If you found a "record-locking" file, I believe you found the
..LDB file.

Good luck
