From my standpoint, one of the primary reasons of a client/server
environment is the centralized admin....I prefer to treat workstations as
noveau dumb terminals in a sense, interchangeable - and control everything
from the server - including attachment blocking & AV scanning, spam content
filtering, etc. With a POP or IMAP accct. in Outlook, you can't use publicly
addressable DLs, multiple aliases for addresses, can't use Out of Office,
send as/send on behalf of, can't use OWA, etc. Also, a lot of companies
prefer that no outside (i.e., personal) email be used on their networks for
security reasons.
OL2002 certainly handles multiple mail account types in a much better
fashion than any other version, but it's my preference in a client/server
environment to avoid that kinda config - I have a little Mussolini streak in
me, I guess. ;-)
why it is not ideal on Ol2002?

You'd need OL2002 for that - otherwise you have to change the default
account, close & reopen Outlook each time.
Also note - your current configuration (Exchange & POP in the same
profile) is not supported in versions of Outlook prior to 2002, and
is not ideal even then. See MSKB 245446 for one possible problem you
may face with it. I would recommend that you set up separate mail
profiles for each, or, if this is business mail, host your own
domain's mail on Exchange.
