Some of our users are complaining that when they choose
certain users from the address list that all they can see
is the following: IDS/OU/SUSSEX before the name. Also,
in Users and Computers the Email Addresses tab is no
longer visible. Any ideas?

Application event logs on the Exchange server give you any hints? All
Exchange services started? Might wanna also post this in
microsoft.public.exchange.admin for best results.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the posting. In order to better understand this issue,
please let me know whether you are using Exchange 5.5 or 2000. Based on
your description, I assume you are using Exchange 2000.

If you choose the certain user from the Global address list, I think what
you mean is the "display name" here. Therefore, I think we can go to ADUC
( Active Directory Users and Computers ) to check the properties of the
certain user and to verify if the email address is correct.

Also, the E-mail address colume is not displayed in ADUC by default. To
display E-mail address, Open ADUC, click View->Choose columns and then
select the E-mail address column.

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Sincerely,

We are using Exchange 2000. At least one of the users
does not have the Email Addresses tab on their account
details in ADUC although I have the advanced view for the
entire AD tree. Also, some users do not appear in the
Global address list.

could not find anything pertaining to the Exchange
service and all services are running.

Sounds like they aren't mail-enabled, then.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the posting again. Based on your description, it seems that
these users were not mail-enabled.

To verify this, you can use the following methods:

Method one:

Right-clicks the account which does not have the Email address, and then
click Exchange Tasks, you should see one task named "create mailbox". If
the account is email enabled, there won't be a task named "create mailbox".
Only those account that is not mail-enabled has this task.

Method two:

Right click the account which does not have the Email address, click
Properties. There is not a tab named "Email address". If the account is
mail-enabled, you will see a tab named "Email address".

If those accounts is not mail enabled, you need to create mailboxes for
these accounts manually.

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried both of your
suggestions and found that the user is mail enabled
(create mailbox was not listed under Exchange tasks).
The Email Addresses tab does not exist for this
particular user.
