Exchange/AD password mismatch

We have a user who could not access his email this
morning. Outlook asks for a password even though he was
authenticated in the domain with a success audit. He gets
an error that his password information is incorrect if he
enters it at the prompt that appears when Outlook opens.

This is machine specific. He could access his mailbox on
ANY other machine, just not his. We are native W2k, Exchg
2k, Office XP all with latest service packs.

This has happened a few times over the course of several
months-to this users and to a couple others. The AD accts
seems A-OK.

I tried removing and adding this machine from and back
into the domain, but no good. The event log showed
security error 680 with a C0000064--MS site reports "A
program or service attempted to start with the logon
credentials specified in the message, which do not match
the credentials of the current user."

I reset his password at the local DC and at the Ops
master. Did a replication--all no good.

I finally rebooted the Exchange server which 'fixed' it.
Has anyone run into this? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Linda-

With this particular issue being exclusive to a user at a single machine,
were there attempts made at rebuilding the outlook profile 1st and if failed
uninstalling\reinstalling the outlook client?

Good point. Yes, we have rebuilt both the Outlook profile
and the local machine profile. It's as if something in the
Exchange schema loses touch with the local machine
account. Rebooting the Exchange server is a quick fix,
but obviously not a good one. This seems to have
coincided with a user changing a password in the past, but
that is not the case here.

Thanks!
