excessive bad clusters in System restore files

Hi,

Whenever I run chkdsk on my xp pro, I always get a lot of
bad clusters in the system restore files. In the past I
did not know I was getting these errors, and when they
built up to a certain point, I would get an error about a
dll file being bad or missing, and the computer would not
boot.

They aren't called "bad clusters" because they've been naughty. That term
means that the surface of your hard disk is physically deteriorating.
Sometimes that's a factory defect; sometimes that just happens with wear and
tear (if your hard disk is many years old); but it usually means that your
hard disk needs to be replaced. The fact that the damage is occurring in
your system restore files is probably just a coincidence. If you're getting
a lot of bad clusters, it's time to replace your hard disk - now.

I have a SCSI system. This is a Seagate Cheetah Drive. It
is about 2 years old. Think it is still time to get it
out of there.

I just ran Seagates Enterprise Diagnostic Utility. It
said all of my drives are in good shape. What do you
think?

I think the same thing. Windows flags bad clusters so that nothing will get
stored in them. The rest of your hard disk is perfectly good. Having a few
bad clusters is no big deal, but if you're getting "a lot" of them, that's a
sign that your hard disk could be starting to fail.
