Exceptions Lost with Recurring Appointments

Oftentimes, a calendar item is set as a recurring
appointment- with no end date. The problem comes about
when wanting to set an end date because the meeting has
changed or is no longer in existence. When setting or
changing an end date, a window comes up stating "Any
exceptions associated with this recurring appointment will
be lost. If any of the exceptions are meetings, the
attendees will not be notified. Is this okay?".

So what do I do if it is not okay? I need to keep the
historical background on meetings that have been changed-
both the times/dates that were revised as well as the
notes that were made or attached to the meeting. I also
need the meeting to be removed from the calendar going
forward, but not going backwards. My patch for this has
been to manually delete each occurrence forward which is
not really acceptable, as somebody else is going to
inherit the problem sooner or later.
