Hi Timothy,
I am receiving an exception when trying to install the .net 1.1
framework redistributable. It is thrown when running
regsvcs.exe @ 0x00218258. I am running W2K3x64 OS.

Based on my experience, since the execution of regsvcs.exe is from by a
custom action in the .NET Framework installation program, there would not
be many detailed information about the issue, it may be hard to tell which
causes the unhandled exception in RegSvcs.exe during the installation, but
if you have any failed .NET 1.1 framework installation on your machine, I
suggest you can take the following approach first for a try:

Reboot into Safe mode and navigate to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework,
then proceed to delete all 1.1.x folders. Once they are safely deleted you
can reboot the system into non-Safe mode and installed the .NET Framework
again.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Gary Chang

Tried the remove directory and fails at same place during install. Any
suggestions ?
One piece of information that wasn't relayed earlier. I have installed
VS2005. Don't know if it matters ?

Thanks,

Hi Timothy,

I am afraid I forget one think to check, your system is a Windows 2003,
Windows 2003 system should have installed the .NET Framework 1.1 as a
Windows system component by default.

Would you make sure your system haven't the .NET 1.1 Framework yet, I
suggest you check the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ directory. If
your system has already installed the .NET 1.1 Framework, you can find a
v1.1.4322 sub directory in it.

Thanks for your understanding!

Gary I agree it should have installed 1.1 but it isn't installed. I have the
directory but only two files exist, gacutil.exe.config & regsvcs.exe.config.
I also thought VS2005 should have installed it as well. I have the MS
WorldTime program install that indicates the 1.1 framework needs to be
installed so I don't think it was.

Any ideas ?

Hi Timothy,

I am afraid I could not find more clues from the exception error message.
So at the current stage, it is better for you if one of our PSS support
engineers could work with you. This may need you submit a support incident
in Microsoft PSS (Product Support Service). As a MSDN subscriber, you have
two free support incidents.

By the way, if the problem is confirmed by Microsoft PSS as a product
issue, PSS won't charge money. Every MSDN subscriber has two free support
incidents. You could use one of them to contact Microsoft PSS. So you don't
need to pay money yet. Surely if the issue is a product issue, you still
have two free support incidents.

For your reference, I attached steps to contact Microsoft PSS here: You can
contact Microsoft Product Support directly to discuss additional support
options you may have available, by contacting us at 1-(800)936-5800 or by
choosing one of the options listed at
