I have been unabe to find any help for this issue in these posts. I tried to
download AT&T security software, and get an error msg as above. When I elect
to continue, I get a screen from AT&T saying that I must be an administrator
to install. I always sign on as an administrator. Can anyone help?
I have tried to install software in Safe mode, and directly from IE6. AT&T
support can't solve problem and feel it is in Win XP. I have rechecked user
acc'ts to make sure of admin status, etc.
Thanks,
Tom

HI Tom,
You may experiencing a profile corruption, try to create a new profile (as
Admin) and copy the data from one of these profile to the new and test to see
if it will work.
If it did work then you know it is a profile corruption, after making sure
you copied all the Data from the Old Profile to the new one, you can safely
delete the old corrupted one, the same with other account.

nass,
Thanks. I looked in the C: disk--there is not a file with my name (my admin
acct is "Tom." There are the following folders: Admin, All Users, Default
User, and HP_Owner. My settings seem to be in the HP_Owner file. When I
explore that file, I find a number of "Ntuser" files, but not the exact 3
specified in the Microsoft article you cited. I have: ntuser (DAT file),
ntuser (config file), ntuser (text doc), NTUSER.DAT.COPY.TMP,
ntuser.dat.rcbak, and NTUSER.DAT.rctemp! Should I copy any of these files
into the new user profile, or skip them all?

Hi Tom,
No, don't copy these files as the new profile will contain its new settings
of the same files but with new correct settings not damaged or corrupted.
If you did copy these file you will spread the corruption to the new profile
and set the same restrictions as implied to the old one!.

Nass,
I have messed something up in this process. I deleted the "new account" in
control panel yesterday until I rec'd further info. Today, I can create a new
account, but it doesn't show up on the list in Explorer under "Documents and
Settings." How did I mess this up, and can I fix it?
Thanks so much,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I don't know what you messed, but you can always try System Restore to an
earlier date and see if that will fix the issue.
Did you create the new account as Admin?.

Hi nass,
Thanks for all the time you have put in on this to help me. I enjoy trying
to learn something out of each of these episodes. I went through the whole
thing successfully, but am still not able to download the software (same
error msg). Do you have any other idea what could help?
Sorry,
Thanks,
Tom

Hi nass,
Sorry to report I tried all these cleaners and sites and the problem
remains. I am at a loss to know what to do next. No help with a clean boot
either. Any further ideas or references--I'm sorry to be a pain.
