Hello
I'm trying to import data from Access 2003 into Excell 2003 (in Excell:
ImportExternalData/NewDatabaseQuery).
In Access aplication I've got user level security implemented. User names
and groups are in system.mdw file. I'm able to open Access aplication using
all login details but I cant't access my Access application from Excel level.
When I try to import data using excel wizard in first window I choose
"access driver*" then I select database name. After that the message appears:
"ODBC Microsoft Acceess Driver Login Failed" "You do not have the necessary
permissions to use the DatabaseName.mdb object.....". None of the user/admin
account works. Any ideas?

Seems to me, that when you choose the access driver, and then select the database name, there are additional buttons/tabs where you can select the workgroup file (system database), and supply a username/password.

: Hello
: I'm trying to import data from Access 2003 into Excell 2003 (in Excell:

When I choose the access driver then the "Select database" window appears. In
there you need to select database name. There are no additional buttons/tabs
according to workgroup file. However when I select name of my access dabase
then the fault message appears "ODBC Microsoft Acceess Driver Login Failed"
"You do not have the necessary permissions to use the DatabaseName.mdb
object.....". After you press OK appears "Login" window. You can put login
name and password and you can change again database name. None of login names
does work. Let me remind that user names and groups for my access application
are in system.mdw file in C:\Documents and
Settings\krzysztofj.AUTOTECH\Application Data\Microsoft\Access.

Do these steps...
Data, Import External Data, New Database Query
In the Choose Data Source, select <New Data Source>
Enter a name for it
Select a driver - choose MS Access Driver (*.mdb)
Click on Connect, Click on Select and locate the mdb
In the System Database area choose the Database Option, and click on System Database; locate the mdw.
Click on Advanced, and enter the username/password, and OK
Click on OK
Put a check beside 'Save my user ID and password in the data source definition' (or maybe not, depending on whether you want to provide it every time).

Thank You very much. Everything works It works I couldn't understand your
explanations at the fist time because I was trying choose "access driver"
instead "New Data Source". I couldn't see options described by you in your
first reply.

Sorry about that, I was going by memory, rather than checking for myself. Glad you got it working.
