I have to teach to med students a course on survival analysis with Excel
only. Does somebody know some Excell macros I can use for testing and graphs?
Presumably medical students would need to know this in order to save lives.
You'll save many more lives if you AVOID Excel. It's stats functions aren't well
implemented. Excel 2003 improves upon this to an extent, but Excel still lags
behind the numeric accuracy of dedicated math and stats packages.
But if you want to teach biostatistics-like warm & fuzzies to these med students
using Excel rather than software that, say, the U.S. FDA would require for use
in analyzing clinical trials, then Excel includes functions for the Exponential
and Weibull densities/distributions, which are two of several distributions used
in survival analysis. Excel provides nothing remotely resembling the survival
analysis packages available in SAS, SPSS, S or R, etc.
So you're going to need to start from scratch. Hopefully this course doesn't
start later this week. You'll need to provide LOTS MORE DETAILS about what you
want to do for anyone to give you meaningful assistance unless there's someone
who's already created such a system and is willing to share it with you.
