Excel2000 crash "invalid instruction module defalert.dll"

While working and pressing save repeatedly in Excel 2000 a
user recieved this error message:

navapw32: illegal operation invalid instruction module
defalert.dll @ 017fld51652.

Soon after this occured the machine froze up during shut
down.

The PC is running Win 98 SE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
