G Guest Jul 6, 2007 #2 In Excel 2003, when you choose to protect a sheet you have some options you can set - two of those are "Format Columns" and "Format rows". If you 'tick' "Format Columns" then you can hide/unhide them even if the sheet is protected. Same for Rows.
