I have XP home edition and comes with Works Suite 2002.
I have a file which is a XLS spreadsheet but when i try
to open it i get a list of programs to choose to open it
and excel is not there.
Doesnt Works Suite 2002 have excel and what can i do?

No it doesn't and it never has done. The only Office application included in
the Works Suite is Word. If you merely wish to view the spreadsheet then a
viewer can be downloaded here http://tinyurl.com/4lm7. Anything more would
require the purchase of the full version of Excel.

Assuming that you have access to a machine running Excel
somewhere, try saving the file as a space-delimited .txt
file, then save it to a floppy. Then on your XP home PC,
open whatever crummy spreadsheet program comes with works,
(can't recall the name) File/Open, change File Type to All
Files and select your .txt file. I believe it will open.
