Excel worksheet - paste link

After paste link of the worksheet, I double click on the object on the slide
and the Excel worksheet displays. Is this the original worksheet or a copy
of the worksheet? If someone else is editing the worksheet, will I be denied
access.

Please bear with me as I am not familiar with network and collaboration.

When you open the Excel file and someone else is using it, then you will be
prompted to open as Ready Only or opt to be notified when the other person
has finished using it. Regards Adrian.

Not entirely.

If you've pasted (rather than paste-linked) the Excel sheet, then a copy of the
entire workbook is embedded in your PPT file. You'd always be editing the
embedded copy, not the original file.

If you've linked, then you'd be editing the original Excel file in most cases.

However, if PPT can't find the original Excel file along the link path but CAN
fine a copy of the file in the same folder as the PPT itself, you'll end up
editing that.

the original, then when PPT asks me if I want to update link and I say "yes,"
I wonder what's going to happen. (If you prefer, you can regard this as my
thinking aloud.)

BTW, I answered your question on where I am. Did you catch that post? I
feel that I can easily miss some new posts to my threads. I had a post
(under the "play sound - triggered click" thread) saying that I don't know
how to post. I'll try not to bother you (at least not as much) after next
week. In the meantime, please bear with me some more. I appreciate that.

It'll update from whichever it finds. That is, if it's linked and can't find the
original file you linked to, but CAN find a copy of the file in the same folder as
the PPT, then it'll update from the copy. But as long as it can find the original
it'll use that.

I don't mind telling you more explicitly, if I weren't on the net. I did
provide some kind of info under one thread where you talked about firework.

Remember that eBay seller who travelled to places to meet with all his
buyers? Did I remember it right? Who knows, I may drop by and say "hi" to
you and the other MVP's who have helped me a lot. I am a dreamer but you
never know ......

By the way, I find this newsgroup the most friendly and fun to be with.
Afterall, one has to be light-hearted and creative to be passionate about PPT.

I may have gone off-topic more often than I should? But I bet it will be
"boring" if you just answer tech questions all day long. Thank you for your
time. Okay back to more PPT now.

Some newsgroups are very tightly focused on their topic. This one ... well. Mostly
focused but we veer off on wild tangents from time to time. Anyone who's upset by that
is welcome not to read those threads. ;-)

I didn't hear about the eBay seller (hm, may have to look that up -- sounds
interesting), but I know quite a few people from this group will be at
PPTLive this September. Feel free to join us there -- if not this year, then
maybe next!
 
Speaking of wild tangents - which usually include distractions... Bruce is
making spaghetti for lunch... talk about a distraction!!!

You folks have certainly made a difference. I am a happier camper now than
when I first learned PPT.

Kathy, have you had a chance to read Steve's post on his experiment on MODI,
MDI, Excel etc. under the other thread (created on 6/26)? I had a follow-up
post too. Thanks for your help.

Not that I know of. But the spaghetti was great! And the chocolate cake he
made the night before wasn't too bad either. (Even if it was the first time
using the new place's oven.)
