The database and spreadsheet in WORKS are simple single page
(flat-file) programs suitable for home use. You need to
either buy the Excel spreadsheet or MS OFFICE which will
include WORD and EXCEL and some other programs you may or
may not need or want (now). It is usually cheaper in the
long run to but the packaged programs rather than one at a
time. If you need the Access database you should get the
Professional version of OFFICE.
OFFICE is available in an academic version "students and
teachers" edition that can be found for $120-$180 depending
on whether it is the standard or professional edition and
the price the dealer wants. I know both versions are
available from
www.newegg.com Most brick and mortar stores
do not stock (and probably never heard of the student/
teacher) professional version. Most stores do stock the
standard version that lists for about $150 but often
discount it to the $120-130 range.
The big restriction is that the student/teacher version IS
NOT an upgrade path and the EULA says you can only use it
while you are a teacher or student. This may change. They
are also restricted from "commercial use" making money with
the program. The programs are full function.
If you only need to be able to view these Excel spreadsheets
you can get a free Excel viewer from the MS download center.
| Doing a distance learning programme which calls for using

| Works. Can find Excel when doing a search in documents

| page and in the drop down menu for insert it does not
| give the option of inserting a page. Nor can I find any
