HI,
I have a workbook that contains links to other excel workbooks. When I
open up the workbook, I recieve a message stating "This workbook contains
links to other data sources- If you update the links, Excel will attempt to
retrieve the latest data. If you don't update the links, Excel will use the
previous information" Then my options are "Update" or "Don't Update." I do
not want to update, so I click on "Don't Update," however, Excel preforms
and update automatically, and because I don't have access to the object
links, I recieve a "#N/A" in the cell that contains the data that was not
supposed to be updated. I have been through techNet and found instructions
on how to turn off automatic updating, but the update warning window appears
before I can choose the option to not update. Further more, once I click on
"Don't Update," and excel updates anyway, the option to perform a manual
update is greyed out. Automatic update is the only option.

Has any one heard of this before? Is there some kind of fix I can download?
Why can't I choose to do a manual update? Why can't I turn off the update
option before the update warning appears?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been using links for many years, but when I recently
got Office 2003, the new Excel has driven me crazy with the
prompts for links updates. About half the time they have
already performed the update, so the prompt was completely
unnecessary. In Win 98, I NEVER was asked by Excel what I
wanted to do about updating links. They just did it! Pffft!
