Trevor

Suddenly I have found that if I lick on a shortcut to an Excel file I have
on my PC, I receive a message that "file C:\.....\.....\......etc.xls cannot
be found.

BUT if I open excel then use File/Open and navigate to this file, it opens
without a problem.

I have tried to recereate new shortcuts to the files and still get the same
message.

The same happens when you double click on an Eccel file in Win Explorer, but
I have checked and the file extensions are registered in Windows correctly.

I am using Office 2000 on Win XP.
All of the other Office applications work without a problem.

Anyone have an idea what is hapening?

Thanks
Trev

Trevor,
First try
Tools, options, general make sure the 'ignore other applications' is not
selected.

If this does not sort out the problem you may need to go try this as in this
post which we found when we had the same problem and it solved it.

It sounds like is a problem with the file associations. Go to Start/Run and
run this command:
Excel /regserver

Note that there is a space before the forward slash.

If you receive an error, you may need to browse to Excel.exe and include the
full path. It would look something like:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" /regserver
