excel very slow

I have a dell inspiron 640m with core2duo and 2 giga ram, but when I work
with excel 2007 (in a very simple spreadsheet) the system get too slow, some
time show me the "not responding" message but a few seconds later response, I
think that is not a hardware problem because the other office programs works
fine.

I have a new PC with a dual core processor and lots of free hard-drive space.
Save-to-disk speeds in Excel 2007 strike me as being considerably lower than
in previous versions of Excel. I'm not experiencing problems with other
programs including MS Word applications.
 
I have just the same experience with you about "Excel changes very slow
action", especialy it will happen after "print preview", isn't it?
I am shocked by no solusion given even in best CPU & Windows system.

Can you show me this improvement operation, if you have?
 
Don't be surprised! I think Excel 2007 has a massive design issue and it
performs average 45 times slower than 2003. Yes, 45 times slower! In our
company we have to use large spreadsheets and we built a test mechanism to
test the performance of different systems and accross the board we found that
on large spreadsheets excel 2007 is 45 times slower than the old 2003.

I hope Microsoft reads this and finally decides to do something about it.

It has a massive problem how it utilizes multiple cores of the CPU. What it
doesn't like is the ULV and those are 55 times slower. Yeah, increased
productivity!!!

Once we had a spreadsheet that had over 200K rows and quite columns, it took
48 hours for 2007 to do the calculations using a dual core brand new dell
laptop.

Therefore our company is banning us to use excel 2007. They say we may
switch to something else other than MS products because it is unacceptable
slow.

So good luck, we've been trying to find a solution for over a year now and
and MS does not give a damn... We are actually considering a lawsuit against
the MS about the increased productivity. Our attorneys are evaluating whether
it should be a class action ....
 
We observed the same behavior in my office. After searching the
blogs/forums, I found someones blog that mentions adding one (any one) of the
Excel add-ins dramatically improved performance. I tried it, and to my
amazement, it worked. I had each user install the LookUp Wizard add-in.
Click the Office button, select Excel Options on the bottom, click Add-ins on
the left pane, use the pull down menu on the bottom to slect Excel Add-ins
(should be already selected by default, click Go, check the box next to the
Lookup wizard Add-in, and select OK. Follow prompts to install the Add-in
and I beleive you will find the performance of Excel, and the rest of Office
2007, dramatically improved.
