excel save when shut down even if nothing changed

when ever i close down excel it asks if i want to save even when i have done
nothing - just opened, read and closed. i suppose its a bug somewhere. This
is with Excel 2003 from Office 2003 Pro. Any help please

This is probably because the file you have opened contains one of the volatily
functions. Examples are =Now() and =TODAY(). Opening a file with any of those
functions cause the file to be noted as changed.

no, the only function is =SUM, it is a very basic spreadsheet for summing
mileage and dividing by .o4. Any other ideas
