excel save changes default directory +more

Hello all,

i have as deafult the directory c:\dir1\dir2 where my *.xls files are stored.

once i have opened a file and sometimes before i even work on it and save it
my default directory changes to c:\program files\common
files\system\mapi\1033\nt

often i will also be asked to compact my e-mail in outlook express 6 when i
close excel and OE-6 is not even open or never was during this session.

i have tried everything i can think of with no luck.
the system is 100% virus free.
this seems to happen with on file in particular that i use more than others.

please help
 
Hi Barb,

there are macros that copy and paste cells from one worksheet to another,
but nothing in the code that changes the directory. also no macros run on
their own, they all need to be executed manually and the problem occurs even
if the macros are never run.

i just checked the macro cod again to make sure and there is nothing.
