My company has an Excel application we have developed and we use an Installer
program to distribute it. The installer default is to install the program
into a Program File that is named. This works flawlessly on xp but on any
computer that has Vista installed, the file opens in Read Only, which defeats
our entire application. The read only format can not be changed in any of the
obvious ways (under Properties etc). This is a huge problem for us. Is there
any way around it?

You might try the Excel newsgroup but could it be that the user is not
an administrator and Vista is locking out the ability for Excel to run
Macros? Could it even be something with D.E.P? See is anyone else can
make a better guess because that's all this was.

Hi wet paint.

Vista has changed a whole bunch of permissions in the program files
directory from the way it was in XP. Try changing your installer
program to install the excel application in a directory outside of the
program files directory (c:\excel_app\ for example) and see how that
works for you. Post back with the results please.
