Excel protection

I have set up some complicated sheets that I don't want
to have to redo because of accidental erasure. I need to
protect all cells except the input cells. How do I
accomplish that? I have not been able to find the answer
to that question. Your help will be appreciated.
 
very simple.

right click the desired cells (select protection) and remove the check in
the lock cell option. DO this for each cell you don't want to have LOCKED.
then after doing that : do 'tools' 'protection' and select what you want to
lock.

Lee, not sure what version you have but I don't have that in my right click,
so here is another way

By default all cells in excel are protected or locked, if you only need a
few locked I would select them all first, Ctrl A, then go to format, cells,
protection and uncheck locked, then select the cells you want to lock and go
to format cells and check locked, the go to tools, protection, and protect
sheet, enter a password if you want, now the cells that you locked can not
be edited

always post what version you are using, so we can give help for the proper
version (my prev answer was based on excel 2000)

Bigred, I am using 2000 9.0.6926 sp-3 I do not have that option, I have to
right click, format cell then protection, can you select protection after
right click? if so is there a option for this that I don't know about?

im running 2000.

if i don't want cell A1 locked i will right click, format cell, remove the
check on locked cell.
then after I do this for all my cells i don't want locked, I then do the
"tools, protection, worksheet".
this will ultimately lock the sheet from changes/edits but allow you to
change the data in the cells that you DID NOT lock prior to protecting your
sheet.

seems odd that you have 2000, and don't have that feature. maybe reinstall
if you were in the right area and didn't have it.

Bigred, I thought the way that it was posted that you had an option to
select protection from the right click without doing the format cell first.

Step #
1. (if you want to leave cell A1 unlocked) right click cell A1
2. right clicking select the protection tabl
3. remove the check mark out of the locked cell box
4. then repeat this process for every cell you don't want to lock on your
worksheet.
5. after unlocking the various cells, then protect the whole sheet.
6. it will leave the unlocked cells free, so you can manipulate them while
locking the other ones from tampering etc.
