Hi, I have been having this problem for a day or so.

Whenever I open any Excel file it shows the toolbars at the top and the status line at the bottom, but between there is nothing
between, i.e. a totally empty screen showing thru to the programs or background behind it, it's like the whole spreadsheet part is
just not there! Even when it's the only open program on the computer it just has the header and a blank screen showing the
desktop.
Can anyone offer advice as to WTF is going on and how to fix it because currently I am totally unable to access any Excel files at
all.

All assistance is appreciated,
Cheers

First thing is to verify that no workbook opened.

Click on Window on the worksheet menubar. Do you see the name of your workbook
at the bottom of that dropdown list?

If yes, then it may be just off the visible screen.
Click on Window|Arrange|tiled (and resize by hand later)

If no, then click on Window|Unhide--maybe the workbook was saved as a hidden
workbook.

Is it there?

If no, then how did you open the file--via File|open or by double clicking in
windows explorer?

If via windows explorer, sometimes one of these works to fix it:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
