What is the maximum files size you can open it Excel 2002?

As part of my reporting responisbilities, I attempt to
open file size approx 22 mb in size, but often Excel take
approx 10 mins to open, on occasion I have to quit Excel
and try again then Excel reports it couldn't open last
time do I want to try again. My PC is a Dell Optiplex GX
1001 running Win 2k and 256 mb ram. I uses excel because
of the excellent Pivot tool functions.
Thanks

Its more complex than pure size. I have 50Mb plus files
that open fine and I have heard of 100Mb ones so 22 should
be ok on that basis.
It more depends on how complex the file is and if it is
local or networked.
A bit more RAM may help, although that should really only
speed things up.

If you are mainly using pivot tables then why not hold
your data in Access and point the pivot at that?

cheers

I've found that if I have a big file in which I've used
autofiltering, and I saved the file with the filters
on...then the file takes a long time to open. If I save
the file with the filters off (disply all) it opens quickly
