Started recently having problem in Excel 97, upgraded to
Excel 2003, and still having problem.

Whether working on old worksheet or creating new
worksheet, program will freeze up in scroll mode and I
can't clear it. Moving mouse only increases highlisted
area. F8 doesn't clear it. Escape doesn't clear it.
Have to Ctrl/Alt/Delete and go to Task Manager to close
program.

Have reinstalled program but that didn't help. Does
anyone have any suggestions? Program was working fine
until recently. Very frustrating!!

Thanks.

I am also having this problem. I am using Office XP and about a month ago, Excel start locking into scroll mode. I have been unable to figure out why this is occurring.

It is a frequent but intermittent problem and only related to the mouse. If I use the keyboard, the problem doesn't occur. And it's not every mouse movement but most mouse movements. Once locked into scroll mode, I need to quit the application. If I "SAVE" the application, the behavior is persistent when I open the file next time. I then need to delete it and start from scratch

My only solution has been to use the keyboard and save frequently (Control + S). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application twice without any luck.

Hi (e-mail address removed),
I am also having this problem. I am using Office XP and about a month ago, Excel start locking into scroll mode. I have been unable to figure out why this is occurring.

This is a problem frequently reported.

There are four possible escapes I know of:

1. Hit the F8 key (if that has helped, mostly you had "EXT" showing in Excel's status bar)
2. Click the wheel of your mouse
3. Go to control panel, System, Devices and remove your mouse. Then let Windows detect and install it again.
4. Find and install the latest mouse drivers
