I have a strange problem. I am running a w2k server
environment with a terminal server attached. It seems
like in the afternoon when people open up excel it starts
to lag to the point of almost freezing. The morning it
seems to be fine. The users get frustrated because it
takes them forever to type into a spreadsheet. It only
seems to be excel that does this. Does anybody have any
answers on why this is happening and what can be done
about it?

how many people are accessing the server?
is it the app that slows down or the entire server?
what are they system specs of the server?

I'm sure the MVPs will have more questions for you as well.

Bring up the performance monitor and see if the system has
enough memory, isn't paging excessively, and isn't
overloaded.

I have roughly 24 users on it, it is a dual 1.4 xeon
with a gig of ram in it. It shouldn't be overloaded, plus
perf mon is running smooth and low. As for paging,
wouldn't that effect all programs, not just Excel?

Ah...I had assumed that you were also seeing a slowdown on
the rest of the server...

Hmm...is Excel accessing networked files that may be
slowing things down? As users logout at the end of the
say, does Excel then speed back up?

Do you have the latest service packs for Windows and
Office installed?
