I'm trying to sort some data for work but my data tab is disabled...is there a way to enable that or some other trick to sorting information?

Which version of Excel are you working in? Is the data tab only disabled in this file, or all files? Do you know why the data tab is disabled?

I spent about an hour yesterday and finally figured out that the particular document just won't sort. I broke up the parts I really needed and got it to sort that way...maybe the spreadsheet is too big? It's Excel 2010 and the whole Data tab is disalbed. Like everything there I can't use.

The first things I would look at are to see if the file is shared or has grouped worksheets. To see this, while you have the file open, look at the title bar at the top. If you see [Shared] or [Group] it means one of those is turned on. My suspicion is grouped. To ungroup worksheets, simply right click on the current worksheet tab at the bottom and choose "Ungroup Sheets." I don't think a shared worksheet would cause this problem, but if that is it, let me know and I can tell you how to un-share a spreadsheet.

Yeah it's in a table. I only have one spreadsheet I'm working from. I just had to copy and past two columns to a completely new spreadsheet to get it to sort...if that makes sense.
